Kupi Raur is a for-fun poem generator based on the original work "Milk and Honey" of Rupi Kaur. It spiralled out of the desire to test AI's ability to learn from poets' style and pretty much memes derived from her work.
I am deeply interested in NLP and one day I chanced upon this article by Max Woolf showcasing a tutorial on the use of GPT-2 that was released by Open AI. GPT-2 has since been used on for many text generating projects.
Here's a bit of information on GPT-2:
GPT-2 was trained simply to predict the next word using 8 million web pages which amounts to 40GB of Internet text. This meant that given any starting word, it would simply be able to guess the next word and eventually aims to create coherent texts.
So how were new poems generated?
Now that it is smart enough to guess many next words coherently, I simply had to retrain it using Rupi Kaur's Honey and Milk book where each poem were demarcated specifically to preserve her writing style as much as possible.
However, not all poems were good and what you see here are only the few surviving ones that are decently good and not part of her original work. I hope you are still able to enjoy it nonetheless!
